description

Life in the Mangroves shows the uniqueness and importance of the mangrove environment and how Aboriginal people live in a close relationship with mangroves. It gives the reader an insight into the unique and complex mangrove ecosystem. Young readers will begin to realise the importance of understanding and working within a natural environment to sustain it for future generations.
For thousands of years mangrove forests have provided Aboriginal people with a rich source of food. The book shows the variety of food obtained and the cooking methods used.
The authors are professional documentary film producers who have been working with Aboriginal people in rainforests and mangrove forests over the last twenty years. This book is written for young readers aged 9-14 years and stems from the authors' experiences working with Aboriginal people and sharing these experiences with students in schools throughout Australia.
