it filters the water (nitrates and phosphates) – whereby it improves the quality of the water
average seed size is 5 cm
can also be grown in pots (need sand & high humidity)
maximum height 2 meters
not winter proof

introduction

The club mangrove reaches an approximate height of two meters and grows like a shrub, or rather it is a shrub consisting of hard wood, which makes it resistant to the frequent strong waves of the ocean.

distribution

This type of mangrove plant is usually found directly on the coast in the area between high tide and low tide. It often grows on sandy beaches or directly in cliffs.

cultivation

roots

This type of mangrove tree does not have any apparent aerial roots. Now and then a few aerial roots appear but these are actually normal roots that should be growing underneath the surrounding substratum but have been uncovered by the ocean. These roots have no problem surviving in the sun and function as aerial roots.

leaves

The leaves are heart-shaped and are able to excrete salt thanks to their salt glands. This is also the case with the Avicennia marina which is able to hereby get rid of any access salt. This salt is not harmful for humans quite the contrary it is one of the healthiest salts there are in the world since it has been carefully filtered by the plant.

flowers

This type of mangrove tree has little white blossoms that grow together in bunches. The blossoms are usually dusted by ants that are often located on the bush.

fruits

seeds

The seeds are green, red or reddish-brown and usually 4-5 cm long.

trunk

The color of the trunk ranges from dark brown to black.

soil

This type of Mangrove tree prefers sandy and rocky grounds which are found near oceans, which is why they are very resistant to high levels of salt.

growth

  Height: up to 2 meters
Temperature: 20-50° Celsius
Ideal growing conditions: 60% up to 90% humidity – 70-100% sunlight
directly grows along coasts, prefers stony costal areas
